A girl at Boys State?
In 2007, Brittany Bedard introduced a first to Massachusetts Boys State. Brittany's father Tom attended Boys State in 1983, and has returned as a staff member each year since. Brittany has joined her dad at Boys State many times over the years, and when she finished her junior year of high school, she asked if she could attend as a Boys Stater. Sounds odd, for sure. But, with special approval of the chairman, Brittany attended the 2007 program, was elected mayor of her city, and has returned to join the counseling staff in 2008. She is a junior counselor in T-1, which might just be the best town in all of Boys State. Brittany will enter Northeastern University next year as a freshman, majoring in speech pathology. And, to answer the obvious question, Brittany does not share the dormitories with Boys Staters of her town. She has a dormitory of her own, separate from any other students or counselors.
